RSU 18 maintenance staff hosted a School Turf Management Workshop, July 11th on the grounds of Messalonskee High School. Twenty-one schools attended, traveling from as far as Fort Kent, York, and Trenton. Participants also included landscaping companies, municipal park departments, representatives from Maine Universities and even one attendee from Boston. The information addressed at the workshop included aspects of lawn care, pest control, and record keeping.
The workshop also showcased the program designed to reduce dependency on pesticides and herbicides that the State has been developing in conjunction with Cornell University. RSU 18 has been serving as a pilot school in this program. The Cornell representatives at the workshop were extremely impressed with the watering process, the number of acres, and the condition of our fields.
