Food drive collection from past years
At Messalonskee High School, Student Council annually sponsors a food drive to support those in our community in need of food. Since 2005, there has been a 25% increase in the number of people in Maine facing hunger. Student council is trying to combat this with our food drive. All of the food and money we collect will go to food banks in Belgrade, Sidney, Oakland and the high school, helping people in our own community. This year, to increase participation, every can or dollar brought in by students counts as ten minutes of volunteer time. Since every student needs service hours to graduate, this provides added incentive to help meet our goal to make this the best food drive ever!
Community members are welcome to contribute as well, and food items or cash may be brought to the main office in the high school. The drive will continue until Wednesday, November 16th.
