Last Friday, the MHS library hosted a speaker from the Holocaust and Human Rights Center.
The presentation, organized by Librarian Sylvia Jadczak and MHS English teachers Kellie Sanborn and Erin Feldpausch, was designed to help the four sections of Writing for High School understand the Holocaust and its context in Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night. The memoir was the focus of the most recent unit in the course and tells the story of Wiesel’s experiences as a teenager in the Nazi death camps.
“The overall reaction from students was very positive,” said MHS English teacher Kellie Sanborn, “the presenter made the messages very relatable.”
“The presentation had topics I wasn’t expecting to be in a Holocaust presentation,” added 9th grader Kyera Ripley, “[It] made it easier to understand [and] more interesting to listen to.”
