Toward the end of last month, the school board confirmed Keith Morin to take over the role of Assistant Superintendent/ Chief Academic Officer. Mr. Morin, who started out his career in education as a social studies teacher, has served as Winthrop High School’s Principal for the last 5 years and worked as an assistant principal in the Winthrop district for 4 years prior to that.
Mr. Morin says he is excited to start work with the students and staff of RSU 18. “Making a difference in the lives of students has been at the forefront of my efforts as a classroom teacher and administrator for nearly two decades,” he said. “The successes of RSU 18 are well documented and I am committed to continuing the pre-existing efforts to make this district the very best in Maine.”
In his letter to the staff, soon to be Superintendent Carl Gartley praised Mr. Morin for his strong leadership. Winthrop has also been moving toward a proficiency-based system and Mr. Morin’s methods of implementation are consistent with our vision and direction. His focus is on doing what is best for students and staff, and he takes a collaborative approach that allows for differing opinions.
“RSU 18 has a talented and caring staff,” Mr. Gartley said. “Mr. Morin will be a strong addition to our team.”
