Kaiden Kelley, a 6th-grade student at CMS who entered a writing contest last year as a 5th grader, was selected to be published in an anthology! The writing prompt was part of an integrated writing assignment following the 5th grade trip to The Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
Every year, The Telling Room publishes an anthology of student work based on a theme. This year’s theme was “Encounters.” The book will contain the best pieces of writing from among over 1,000 entries from the Telling Room programs and the writing contest.
The book will be released on Tuesday, May 23, at Big Night, the giant community celebration of Telling Room programs, at USM’s Hannaford Hall in Portland. Kaiden and the other authors in the anthology will be stars for the night. He will receive his own copy of the book and sign copies for some of the 300 or so event-goers. Friends, family, and teachers are welcome/encouraged to come, too.
