Messalonskee High School Girls Soccer held the second annual “Shine On Saturday” September 9th. The event, a girls youth soccer mentoring day, was created to honor former teammate and friend Cassidy Charette, who was a leading Eagle mid-fielder and a youth mentor before she was killed in a hayride accident Oct. 11, 2014.
Organized by Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Penny Stansfield and the Varsity and Junior Varsity soccer teams, the event hosted local girls, grades Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, for games, soccer drills and some playing time on the “big field” with the high school players.
The girls received a “Cassidy MESSO Strong” wristband that earns them a “Shine On Snack” and recognition at girls home games this season. The event was sponsored by the ShineOnCass Foundation, which was created to educate, inspire and empower youth to shine their own light through acts of kindness and volunteer charitable activities.
