Community Connections

China Middle School Fifth-grade students in Mrs. Murphy’s period 7/8 social studies class have been learning about people and places in the community. As part of the unit, she has invited a series of guest speakers from China and beyond to speak to the students about their role in the community. Guests included members of Albion Fire and Rescue, Police Officer Tracy Frost, Town Manager Dan L’Heureux, a China Public Library librarian, and employees of the China Transfer Station. Students enjoyed learning about how these organizations impact the community and how they might interact with them as they get older.

Students also had the opportunity to visit the local Hanford Supermarket as part of this unit. They visited all of the departments and jobs within the store while learning about making healthy food choices.
