Celebrate National Trails Day, June 2, 2018

Lace up your hiking boots, slip on your trail runners, Check the air in your bike tires and HIT THE TRAILS!

Visit the newly renovated Messalonskee School Trails between Messalonskee Middle & Messalonskee High School. Meander through a beautiful grove of ferns. Look for 34 variety of trees on our trails from Spruce, Black and White Ash, Eastern Hemlock, Red Maple, Northern Red Oak, White Pine, American Beech, American Elm, White and Yellow and Paper Birch, Quaking Aspen to name a few.

The Messalonskee School Trails completed a $24,000 renovation in November. The renovation was supported with a grant from the Maine Grants and Community Recreation Program, Bureau of Parks and Lands through the Federal Highway Administration Recreational Trails Program.

A big thank you to Jeff Shieve, RSU 18 Director of Maintenance and his crew, the District Business Office, the Town of Oakland Engineer, Boyd Snowden, the town maintenance department and Bacon Construction for all their support and help. There is still some work to be done on the trails. If you would like to help, please contact Claire Heffernan at cheffernan@rsu18.org.
