ATW Pre-K Fire Safety Event

At the beginning of the month, the Atwood Primary Pre-K had its family involvement event at the Oakland fire station.

“This is a visit we always look forward to!” said Pre-K teacher Krystal Blaisdell. The firefighters welcomed the students and provide the families with valuable information about fire safety and prevention. Fourteen Oakland families attended the event as a kick off to a unit about community helpers.  The children practiced important fire safety skills like “stay low and go” to get out of a smoke-filled house, and “stop, drop, and roll.”

Children then got to explore the firetruck and try out the hose with a firefighter assistance. Each family that attended was given a brand new smoke detector with batteries.  The fire department also provided Atwood with coloring books, rulers, and pencils for all their Pre-K students.

Thank you, Oakland Fire Department, for this terrific event and for all you do!
