Author and Illustrator Russ Cox visits JHB

by Kathryn Bailey

Visits from authors and illustrators are so, so important. I can’t think of a better way to inspire students to read and write than through literature and the truly talented artists who create it.

The JHB school library, the happy recipient of the Onion Foundation Grant, with the help of some matching funds from the school, was able to host Maine author and illustrator Russ Cox.

We had a busy day filled with sketching, group drawing activities and the sharing of favorite books.  Students, teachers and librarians were charmed by Russ’s genuine personality, the gracious delivery of his presentation and most importantly, how well he connected with students.

A few lucky members of the Principals 100 Club were chosen to have a special pizza party lunch with Russ. Smiles all around.

We look forward to our visit with Tamra Wight in the Spring for the 3-5 students.
