We are lucky to have an amazing team of educators in RSU 18; so many of our teachers go above and beyond every day.
This year, seven district educators were nominated for Kennebec County teacher of the year:
Atwood Pre-K teacher Krystal Blaisdell,
Atwood Kindergarten teacher Maggie Solis
Belgrade Central Physical Education teacher Carrie Brennan,
MHS Health and Physical Education teacher Beth Prelgovisk,
MHS Science teacher Bryan Quigley,
MMS Math teacher Stephanie Gifford,
and MMS Social Studies teacher Jamie Routhier.
We are so excited to have all of these wonderful teachers recognized for their hard work and dedication.
Even more exciting is the fact that Jamie Routhier is one of three finalists for Kennebec County Teacher of the Year! Jamie has taught in our district for the past 11 years. She started as a first-grade teacher at James H. Bean School and transferred to MMS to teach grades 7 & 8 Social Studies. Jamie consistently builds strong relationships with her students and plans experiences that help students understand the voice they have in the world and how important it is to use that voice to better our communities.
The finalists for Kennebec County submit essays and will be participating in an interview this week. The 16 County Teachers of the Year will be recognized at an event at the State House on May 9.
Congratulations to all the nominees, good luck to Jamie as she moves forward, and thank you to all our district teachers who work so hard for our students every day.
