MMS presents James and the Giant Peach

The MMS Drama students have been hard at work on their spring production of James and the Giant Peach which will be coming to the stage this Wednesday in the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center.

“This production has been a labor of love,” said advisor Lauralee Fegel, “love of students, community, and the arts.”  MHS Players Ethan Gilles, Julia Cooke, and Julia Bard helped student direct the show, aspiring Eagle Scout Kieran Sears took on the mission of creating the peach, and 2 first year staff members Chris Felicetti and Rebecca Cobban went above and beyond to help pull it all together.

Kieran was looking for the perfect Eagle Scout project that would benefit the community in a unique way. It’s difficult to think of something much more unique than building a giant movable peach!  Mrs. Fegel approached Tech Trades teacher Mr. Felicetti who developed the basic design before meeting with Kieran and Mrs. Fegel.  “He warned of the size, manpower, and cost to produce it,” said Fegel. Kieran immediately got to work contacting community members and local businesses for donations and they delivered to the tune of $2000 in materials! MMS’ new librarian Rebecca Cobban also lent her talents to the production, spending many hours working on props and costumes.

MMS will have 3 shows of James and the Giant Peach this Wednesday, May 15th in the MHS PAC.  They will have two performances during the day for MMS and WES students and put on the final performance for family, friends, and community members at 7:00 pm.  You don’t want to miss it.

Thank you so much to everyone who made this show possible and to those who contributed to the construction costs for the peach:  The Croft Family, The Jackson Family, Hammond Lumber, McCormick Lumber, Aubuchon, Lakeview Lumber, Sherwin Williams, Ware-Butler, Home Depot, Lowes, Mardens, and Subway.
