Last month, students in Mrs. Sucy’s 3rd-grade class participated in an afternoon full of fun creating math-o-lanterns. Students started by making several estimates about their pumpkin. Estimates included weight, height, number of vertical lines, and the number of seeds in their pumpkin. After estimating, students found the actual measurements. Students used placemats to put their seeds into equal groups as they sorted them out. Finally, students were able to carve their pumpkins! This activity encouraged students to work together as a team and promote valuable conversations about math!
