Where are they now? Chantelle Roddy

We love hearing how our former students are doing after they graduate from the district. Here’s an update from a former CMS student who is really making her dreams come true.

“My name is Chantelle and I’m currently in my 2nd year of undergrad at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. I went into college undecided and since have declared as a Public Health and Psychology major.

Through the courses I’ve taken so far and the many unique individuals that I’ve met here, more and more doors are being opened to me every day. I’ve found that as a first-generation college student, it can be difficult to believe that opportunities are open to me. A few years ago, I would never think that unique internships or study away programs would be an option, but I’ve come to learn that those things aren’t beyond my capabilities, they were once just beyond my imagination.

For the spring 2020 semester, I will be taking a semester away from school to participate in the Disney College Program! This program functions as a paid internship at Walt Disney World in Orlando. I’ve dreamt of doing this program for years but never thought it could ever happen. I’ll be working in attractions for the majority of the program, but during the first weeks there and throughout my work, I will get to learn about the ins and outs of the Walt Disney Company. I’m excited to play a small role in a company so driven to deliver the “4 keys” to all guests: safety, courtesy, show, and efficiency. Through this amazing opportunity, I hope to gain professional experience, work on career development, build my resume, make connections, and of course the obvious, visit the parks during my days off as much as possible! The biggest advice I could give to anyone who finds themself in a similar mindset as I was in, is to not limit yourself.”

Since arriving for my program I’ve had nothing but magical experiences! I find myself using Disney’s 4 keys (Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency) in every single thing I do on the job and Na’vi River in the Animal Kingdom! I’ve learned so much about the importance of hospitality in the overall success of a business and have been able to make magical moments for so many guests! On my days off it is also amazing to explore the many parks and resorts with my new friends from all over the States as well as International Students! “
