This year, JHB’s annual “Read Across America” celebration included a new and exciting reading challenge from Mrs. St. Peter. Bean school students were challenged to actually read across America as part of their literacy celebration during the month of March.
Each student was given a map of the 50 states, with each state representing a specific number of minutes the student had to read. As students read each night or were read to, they colored in that amount of minutes on their maps, with the goal of reading all the way across America by March 31. Students were excited to get started!
JHB did not let the school closure stop them from celebrating students’ successful reading journeys, as students sent in pictures of themselves holding their completed maps. This challenge served as the motivator some of our students needed to jump-start their love of reading!
