Local couple Crystal and James Douglas recently made a $500 donation to RSU 18 to help get books into the hands of elementary students in need during the school closure. Crystal Shamus-Douglas, who worked as a library aid at MHS for several years and is a current librarian at Erskine Academy, knows the importance of childhood literacy and the escape that books can provide during times of stress.
The couple’s donation allowed the district to purchase 144 books from the Waterville Children’s book cellar, which were delivered to identified elementary students last week.
