Virtual Acadia Field Trip

Julia Hanauer-Milne organized a virtual field trip to Acadia for her 3rd through 5th graders at BCS, JHB, and WES on May 12th.

Acadia Ranger Lisa Girardin showed kids how different animals in the intertidal zone, such as barnacles, sea stars, and crabs, are adapted to life in their environment. She also discussed research that scientists are conducting to record populations and conditions to understand how the Gulf of Maine is changing.

This virtual field trip was part of the Elementary GT Oceans unit. The final project will be for students to research the impact of plastic on a sea creature, determine how people can help, and create a model of their creature out of plastic found around their homes.
