BCS Celebrates International Dot Day!

Second grade students at BCS celebrated International Dot Day this week. The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds is a story of a teacher who helps a young student, Vashti, discover her inner artist and develop her growth mindset by encouraging her to “Just make a mark and see where it takes you.” Vashti soon realizes to trust in her own abilities through just a small dot on a piece of paper.

Vashti’s journey continues to be an inspiration to students around the world, and as a result International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration was born.

The students in Mrs. Dunbar and Mrs. Wight’s second grade classes read the story and created their own dot drawings. The drawings were done on special paper that, when viewed using the app Quiver (a 3D coloring app), the dots came to life! The 3D dots were a beautiful way to celebrate the creative potential we all hold.
