The ReTree Us program offered a couple of our schools some “Back to School Garden” seedlings. ReTree Us was fortunate to receive funding from Maine Agriculture in the Classroom (as a direct result of the Maine Agricultural Specialty License Plate) and the seedlings were being grown and well-tended by Wolfe’s Neck Center.
We received about 190 seedlings of a mix of lettuce, spinach, and kale. Atwood and Williams were able to share the seedlings. The students in Mrs. Charest, Mrs. Brockway, and Ms. Richard’s classes planted them in the three raised beds at WES. We will be harvesting to share with the lunch program for students to sample.
