CMS fifth graders in Mrs. Averill’s class have been using our TowerGarden hydroponic growing system to grow various plants for us to eat. China Middle School received the TowerGarden and supplies through a Maine Agriculture in the Classroom grant this fall.
Students have participated in each phase of the growing process, from choosing which types of plants to grow, planting the seeds in the rockwool cubes, refilling the TowerGarden reservoir with water and mineral solution as needed, and finally harvesting the final product!
We have grown kale, chard, two varieties of lettuce, basil, and arugula, and are looking forward to another round of planting when we return from April break!
