We hope you had a fantastic April Break and are feeling recharged and ready to tackle the last full month of school. We’ve got some great tips to help you have a fun, productive, and meaningful May.

The countdown is on! Northern Light Hospital and 3-2-1 Let’s Go! are inviting the community to participate in a Screen-Free week during the week of May 3-May 9. They are challenging everyone to push away from their TVs, tablets, phones, and computers and get active. “Screen-Free Week is an annual, international celebration when schools, families, and community groups pledge to spend seven days without digital entertainment. Instead of watching TV, surfing the web, or playing video games, they read, play, think, create, get physically active, and spend more time with friends and family.” If you need some ideas to keep you busy during your screen-free week, you can check out Screen-Free Week on Facebook before May 3rd. You can go back AFTER the seven-day challenge is over and share your family’s experience and be entered to win their book giveaway.

Atwood Principal Jennifer McGee has also issued a May Minimalism Challenge. Each day in the month of May you get rid of the number of items that corresponds with the day of the month. So you just need to get rid of 1 item on the 1st, 2 on the 2nd, all the way to 31 items on the 31st! “Either toss, sell or donate items that are weighing you down!” Mrs. McGee was inspired in part by the documentary, The Minimalists. You can get some ideas of how to get started on this challenge from their website, https://www.theminimalists.com/game/. Challenge a friend and see how far you can make it into the month!
Action for Happiness brings us another great calendar to help us enjoy a Meaningful May I think this is such a great one to help us stay positive and focused through the last full month of school and what is hopefully the tail end of this pandemic. “This month’s theme is all about reflecting on what gives our life meaning. Being a part of something bigger than ourselves or focusing on things that we value is key to our wellbeing. Let’s take time to reflect on what we care about this month and resolve to try and keep these things at the front of our minds as society starts opening up again.”
