First graders in Ms. Dustin’s, Miss. Poulin’s, and Mrs. Moser’s classes at JHB went to the Apple Farm in Fairfield. They learned all about apples during their five senses unit in the weeks before. At The Apple Farm, students were taught how apples are picked in a twisting motion and how to use a commercial apple picking basket. Students were able to sample apple cider, as well as view the apple cider and donut-making process and machines. The first graders also took a wagon ride through the apple orchard where they got to pick a bag of Cortland apples. Students kept a couple of apples at school to complete science experiments throughout the week. It was a beautiful day for students to learn about apples.
