After four days of rain and clouds, the fourth graders spent the last Friday of October outside. It was a beautiful fall day without a cloud in the sky. The focus question for the day was: Does the size of a pumpkin affect the number of seeds in a pumpkin? Students first measured the circumference of their pumpkin. Then they weighed it. They also made a prediction on how many seeds were in their pumpkin. Students then went outside and read with their pumpkin while enjoying hot apple cider. That afternoon students began counting all of the seeds in their pumpkin. Despite being messy, it was a great day full of pumpkins, science and experiential learning.
