JHB Honors our Veterans

Last Friday the James H. Bean School honored our veterans with a very special Veterans Day assembly. Smiling students greeted veterans at the door, thanking them for their service before escorting them to their seats. Patriotic music flooded the hallways as students from PreK through grade five made their way to the gymnasium, proudly waving their American flags. Members of Sidney Girl Scout Troop 408 brought in the American flag, and all stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance together. Several students shared what they’ve learned about the origins of Veterans Day, then fifth grade students shared “Thank You, Veterans, Thank You,” a song reworded for the occasion and led by district music teacher Sue Paradis. During the “Armed Forces Melody,” veterans of each branch stood to be recognized for their service. Messalonskee High School students Spencer Weight and Ryan Wright joined the celebration with their renditions of our “National Anthem” and “Taps,” respectively. As the assembly drew to a close, students and teachers lined the JHB walkway to wave their flags and cheer for our veterans! JHB students gained a better understanding of why November 11th is a day we honor all of our veterans for their service to our country. #WeAreRSU18
