Superintendent Gartley’s Update 11/18/21

RSU 18 Parents,

I am writing to you to let you know about a change in our school calendar in the month of December. Last year we added numerous workshop days to the calendar throughout the year in order to allow the staff the time they need to prepare remote and in person lessons, post materials to Google Classroom and See Saw, assist with contact tracing, picking up extra responsibilities in our school, etc. We know changes in the calendar are an inconvenience for families, and we have tried to recognize and respect this. However, much of this extra work is still being done by our staff. This year the state has approved our district to add an extra workshop day to our calendar in December. This will allow the staff time to do this work. Last night our dedicated School Board approved a change to our calendar. Monday December 6th will now be a workshop day for the RSU 18 staff. No students will attend on this day. This will not extend the calendar at the end of the year.

I am so thankful to our staff, our students and parents for everything you have done over the past two years to make our district so successful. We are definitely better together.

If you have questions, you can reach out to your child’s principal or feel free to contact me.

Thank you all,

Carl Gartley

Superintendent of Schools
