Ms. Deane and Mrs. Dersosiers’ first grade classes at Atwood Primary have been working on reading informational texts and writing informational books of their own! These first graders took time to learn about different penguin facts and wrote their very own chapter books as part of their most current work using The Units of Study writing curriculum by Lucy Calkins.
During writer’s workshop, these first grade authors learned about different features of informational texts and experimented with how to use their own illustrations and words to teach others – including how to incorporate labels, close-ups, and captions into their writing. They also worked on choosing “sparkly” and specific words to teach about the topic. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome
