Mrs. Ripa’s seventh grade science classes learned all about special habitats called vernal pools from April into May. Students searched for and found a vernal pool off the school trails, made observations and collected data, as well as submitted their data to the Vernal Pools Challenge organized by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. They also participated in two zoom meetings with the project scientists, before and after engaging in the project. In addition, students wrote three-paragraph essays about their observations alongside their research questions – which compiled a “nature note” that was submitted to be peer reviewed and hopefully published in the Findings from the Field, a middle school journal of ecological and environmental scientific investigations. #WeAreRSU18
