Meet Lois Bowden of China Middle School

Meet Lois Bowden, principal of China Middle School! Although Principal Bowden has been with us for quite some time, see if there’s anything below you didn’t already know about her!

What jobs have you had before becoming an administrator? I started my educational career as a Title I Ed Tech. During my 36 years in education, I have been a Guidance Counselor, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and Principal.  For the last 19 years, I have been at China Middle School.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to travel any place tropical, work in my flower gardens, golf, hike, and kayak. I especially love spending every afternoon working on a 1000 pieces jigsaw puzzle with my 89 year old mother.

What’s been your best school memory – either as a student or administrator? My 5th grade teacher, Mr. Ronco, is the reason I went into education. He made every student feel special. I have always strived to be just like him.

What would your students be surprised to find out about you? My maternal family heritage is Armenian, but I’m not related to the Kardashians! My grandmother and her older brother escaped and survived the Armenian Genocide.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? I would love to live in Aruba during the winter months and Maine the rest of the year.
