Meet Paula Callan, principal of Messalonskee High School!
What jobs have you had before becoming an administrator? Previous to becoming an administrator 29 years ago, I started my educational career as a special education teacher at the high school level.
What are you most excited about for this upcoming year? I love the start of the new school year. I look forward to seeing the students and staff return from their summer breaks.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love traveling and spending time at the beach.
What’s your favorite meal? My least favorite is seafood. I don’t have a favorite food.
What’s been your best school memory – either as a student or administrator? I have several special memories that are too numerous to list.
What would your students be surprised to find out about you? One summer I got caught in a riptide off the coast of Florida and had to tread water for about 45 minutes before I was picked up.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Anywhere there is a beach close by!
What’s your favorite thing to study? I don’t have anything in particular that I focus on. I like to learn about different cultures and people.
What is your coffee order? I don’t drink anything that is hot (coffee/ tea/ hot chocolate).
What has been your greatest accomplishment? Being the recipient of both the Maine Assistant Principal of the Year and the Maine Principal of the Year. I was honored to share this award with such an awesome school!
