Meet Principal Callan of Messalonskee High School

Meet Paula Callan, principal of Messalonskee High School!

What jobs have you had before becoming an administrator? Previous to becoming an administrator 29 years ago, I started my educational career as a special education teacher at the high school level.

What are you most excited about for this upcoming year? I love the start of the new school year. I look forward to seeing the students and staff return from their summer breaks.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love traveling and spending time at the beach.

What’s your favorite meal? My least favorite is seafood. I don’t have a favorite food.

What’s been your best school memory – either as a student or administrator? I have several special memories that are too numerous to list.

What would your students be surprised to find out about you? One summer I got caught in a riptide off the coast of Florida and had to tread water for about 45 minutes before I was picked up.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Anywhere there is a beach close by!

What’s your favorite thing to study? I don’t have anything in particular that I focus on. I like to learn about different cultures and people.

What is your coffee order? I don’t drink anything that is hot (coffee/ tea/ hot chocolate).

What has been your greatest accomplishment? Being the recipient of both the Maine Assistant Principal of the Year and the Maine Principal of the Year. I was honored to share this award with such an awesome school!
