On Monday, October 24, China Middle School students had the incredible opportunity to learn from Maine Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows. Secretary Bellows is the first female Secretary of State in Maine. She talked with CMS seventh and eighth graders about the importance of voting, what rank choice voting is in Maine, and the Mock Election over 150 schools in Maine will engage in, including China Middle.
Secretary Bellows shared a video that introduced all candidates running for office in Maine. She left students with a message of the importance of voting and setting their minds to accomplish any goals they have for their future.
Assistant Superintendent, Keith Morin, shares, “On behalf of all of the students and staff at China Middle School, thank you. We are so fortunate to have had the distinct pleasure of hosting not only the first woman seated as the Secretary of State for Maine, but also the first Latina deputy secretary… something that our students will forever cherish. The message by all candidates on the importance of voting, in conjunction with the message from Shenna while describing her childhood and the boundless opportunities that all of our students have, was inspiring to many. Thank you for your visit.”
