For the second year in a row, RSU 18 is home to Maine’s Assistant Principal of the year!
The Maine Principal’s Association announced earlier this week that Messalonksee Middle School AP Melanie Smith was this year’s recipient due to her collaborative approach to facilitating professional development surrounding student learning.
MPA Excutive Director Richard Durost stated that Ms.Smith, “drawing from her own teaching experiences, has helped teachers analyze instructional practice fostering student academic success. She is the facilitator that causes students, parents, and teachers to view each situation in terms of what is best for the student, not necessarily the adults.”
Ms. Smith, who became the Assistant Principal of Messalonskee Middle School in 2011, is known as a team player with a strong worth ethic, high expectations, and a deep desire to help all become successful learners. The award was announced officially this morning at a ceremony at MMS. Ms. Smith will also be honored at the MPA annual awards banquet on April 27th of next year.
