The members of JHB’s Student Leadership Team delivered “Hero Bags” to local heroes, our first responders, on Thursday, February 14.
The students contacted the various agencies to determine how many heroes we have in our community, brainstormed items to put into the bags, shopped for the items, voluntarily gave up their recesses to create the bags, and delivered them. They created and delivered 80 bags in all.
They visited the Oakland police officers, the Oakland firefighters, the Sidney firefighters and paramedics, and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s office. Thanks to the Gratitude Grant awarded by RSU 18, our students were able to show their appreciation to the men and women who work tirelessly to protect us every day.
As teachers, we need to continually seek out ways to show our children that they have the power to make a difference in someone else’s life. Their Hero Bags, albeit small in size, provided an immeasurable life lesson in the satisfaction of performing random acts of kindness.
