Last month in 6th grade, students spent a few weeks learning about America’s history of voting rights and exploring current examples of voter suppression. Students also researched the candidates so that they could all gain a better understanding of what their favorite candidate wanted to do for America. Ultimately, on November 3rd, all 6th graders were able to cast their ballots for the presidential election.
On Team Atlantic, it was a student-run election with students making voting posters using Canva, creating a ballot box, making a list of “registered voters” in Google Sheets, emailing voting day reminders to their classmates, creating an online ballot for remote students using Google Forms, working the polls to assist voters, and counting the ballots (again and again!).
