Each year, students in Mrs. Paradis’ fifth grade music classes spend several weeks learning the basics of playing a keyboard. Normally, students use electric keyboards that are set up in the music room. However, these are not normal times and there have been many adjustments due to COVID restrictions.
One of these adjustments has been to use the 1:1 iPads to substitute for the electric keyboards. Students use the GarageBand app to utilize the keyboard function, which allows them to have a simulated keyboard experience. Remote students are also following this same procedure but share their learning with Mrs. Paradis in different ways, such as taking a video of themselves playing a song or recording themselves in Garageband.
