In Mr. Schmidt’s eighth grade math class, students took the skills they’ve learned from ratios, proportions, and scale factor to design prototypes of prosthetic limbs. Not only did they learn what parts of their design matched a real human hand, they also learned a little bit about what roles things like ligaments and tendons play in our bodies. Once they had built one design, they used a new scale factor to design hands that were bigger or smaller than their original design (but they still had the same proportions to their actual hands). Some students were able to 3D print their designs! #WeARERSU18
