First graders at Belgrade Central have spent the month of January exploring different animals along with their habitats and adaptations through nonfiction texts. They have learned that nonfiction books are about real-life people, places, things, animals, and events. They have had a lot of fun learning about different arctic animals, chameleons, and penguins. Did you know that queen bees hibernate, that chameleons can change their color to regulate their temperature, or that penguins have a layer of blubber to keep warm? These are animal adaptations that help them survive in their specific habitats, and these first graders have become experts on facts just like these! #WeAreRSU18
