Mrs. Lachance’s fourth graders from Belgrade Central used styrofoam blocks that she grabbed from her husband’s work (shoutout to E. Carrier Shelving in Sidney) to build a life-size fraction bar tower! Students had to measure and divide to find the length of the equal parts! They taped them off then got out their paintbrushes! These mathematicians have used the tower throughout their fractions unit to help order and compare fractions with unlike denominators.
