Bungee Cord Mathematics

China Middle School students in Mr. Schmidt’s Algebra I class applied the skills they have learned in functions to understand how a bungee company knows the appropriate length a bungee cord needs to be for their customers. While CMS students were using rubber bands and Barbie dolls to simulate real people, they also created equations in slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard forms. The class then used those equations to predict how many rubber bands it would take to drop the doll 200 feet. They also had the chance to talk about the impacts of height, weight, gravity, and other factors that make this a difficult challenge in the real world! #WeAreRSU18
