The Messalonskee Middle School Greenhouse flourished this past summer despite the hot and dry July weather. Students helped over the summer to water, weed, and plant seedlings with Mrs. Ripa. Together, they planted sunflowers from seeds they had saved from the one mammoth sunflower they grew last year. They shared a sunflower with each team at MMS so that others could enjoy plucking seeds and counting just how many seeds are in a mammoth sunflower. The greenhouse had lots of mini cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, shishito peppers, one big pumpkin – and there is still corn to harvest! If you visit, you may also notice some butterflies in progress on the greenhouse walls painted by two Team Highlands students!
