Brittney Fairfield, the President of the Kennebec Beekeeping Association, recently visited Mrs. Ripa’s science classes at Messalonskee Middle School to teach all about bees! The classes learned so many new facts about honeybees and how to keep bees to harvest honey as well as to help with pollination. Students learned the different jobs bees have in a hive, how they communicate with each other, and threats bees face like climate change and parasites. Middle schoolers also got to taste some honey while they spotted the queen in the observation hive. Thank you, Mrs. Fairfield!
