Slam Poetry

The students of China Middle School and Messalonskee Middle School of the Gifted and Talented program were challenged to write, collaborate, and perform an original slam poem that addressed the concept of “change.” These poems embodied their feelings, passions, and positions on topics of change that are most meaningful to them. Students were tasked to learn and integrate various poetic techniques and figurative language as well as to communicate their messages employing presentation techniques. Their goal was to use their voices and their messages to stir their audience – hopefully sparking a movement toward positive change or at the very least opening the minds of those who hear them to consider their own place in a world that is constantly changing. #WeAreRSU18
