William’s Title One Math Specialist, Valerie Glueck, has brought Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s club to WES.
Crazy 8s is an after-school Math club where students get to build glow-in-the-dark structures, crack secret codes, and participate in Toilet Paper Olympics. The goal of the Crazy 8s program is to focus on the fun and reduce the anxiety that can surround math.
The WES club started on February 27 with an activity titled Glow-In-The-Dark Geometry and is run by Glueck with 6 other volunteers. WES Teachers Alexandra Cotter, Kinsey Hilton, and Karen Mayo, and Messalonskee High School students Ben Hellen, Cameron Croft, and Tieran Croft have volunteered their time to provide Williams Elementary students with fun and engaging math activities after school.
So many students are interested in the WES Crazy 8s club that they currently have a waiting list for participants. Thank you to Valerie and everyone else who has made this group possible.
